Conventionally, there have been known a variety of data transfer apparatuses such as facsimile machines, printers, external storage devices, and the like for transferring data over a transmission path.
For example, according to a conventional facsimile apparatus, a data transfer apparatus for use in such an apparatus (hereinafter, referred to as a xe2x80x9cfacsimile data transfer apparatusxe2x80x9d), when it is determined that the capacity of a memory in the facsimile data transfer apparatus is insufficient to store all of the image data which has been received, the image data is once stored in a memory device other than a memory for storing the image data, and then the image data stored in the memory device is read out and stored in the memory device used for storing the image data.
In general, there is a tendency that the required capacity of a memory increases as the image quality of the image data to be stored in the memory increases. Therefore, according to the conventional facsimile data transfer apparatus, even if the memory capacity for storing the image data is sufficient, the data is stored in another memory device. As a result, a memory space which is not used for storing the image data is occupied for a memory device for storing the data. Therefore, when the memory capacity for storing the image data in the memory is insufficient, the data transfer cannot be completed efficiently.
